Fine Motor Skills

This week I thought I'd focus on fine motor skills with #1 (and #2 just does them as she wishes). Having the educational background that I do, I know how vital these skills are for kids! These skills help develop small muscle movements of the hands. Fine motor skills develop when your child's whole body gains mobility, stability, cognitive, and emotional/social development.

We've done the jewelry making (stringing beads on string) and using tweezers to pick up pom poms. I had a new idea for a new fine motor activity this week.

What you need:
Apple Jacks (Cheerios, Fruit loops, any breakfast cereal with a hole in the middle will work)
Unbaked Spaghetti noodles
Play-Doh

How to do it:
1. Make a base with the play doh.
 2. Stick 2 or 3 unbaked spaghetti noodles into the play doh. I did 4 at different lengths.
 3. Give your child a cup of apple jacks (or a cereal with a hole in the middle of it).
4. Have them put the cereal onto the spaghetti noddle.
5. Then they can take the cereal off, and repeat.

#1 loved doing this.

As did #2!
