Five Minute Friday: Broken

I look forward to unedited Fridays with Lisa Jo Baker!

Today is Good. Good Friday. Now, some people ask, why do you say "Good Friday" when Jesus was hung on the cross to die? It IS good. Why you ask? Because Jesus, took ALL my sins, YOUR sins, away. Today is GOOD.

Yesterday I stumbled upon this blog post. Written by an average person. They talk about how Satan distracted us this week with all the junk and legal discussions of marriage. Why this week? One of the MOST IMPORTANT weeks of the year. Holy Week.

Why? Because he's Satan, and that's his goal, to distract us all.

BUT Today, focus on the good. Good Friday. We were broken but because of what Jesus did for us today, we are set free! Reminds me of the song Sweetly Broken, as we are at the cross, we are wholly surrendered because of what HE did for us.

Even though we were broken, Jesus has paid the price for me and you, and you are now set FREE. Because of Jesus! "It is finished". Thank you Jesus.

Journey to the Cross Magnet & Prayer Page

On Tuesday I posted about the Journey to the Cross activity that I did with Children's Ministry kids on Sunday at church (I took various pieces from various places and put it together. It was not all my idea. I cannot since find the sites, if I do, I'll give credit where credit is due).

At this event on Sunday I also gave out these AMAZING Journey to the Cross Magnets that are found from Christian Tools of Affirmation. Along with the magnet came a very extensive devotion for families. The magnet is meant to be something you go through, the WHOLE season of lent,  but I rather took it to have families do the week leading UP TO Easter. I took the prayers they provided and made a one page of prayers that focused on a specific bible passage. Even if you don't have the magnets, you can still do the little prayers and bible readings each day until Easter. Find that document, here.

We've been doing these every morning before breakfast. The kids have really enjoyed putting the magnets on the fridge. Soon it'll form a cross!

Journey to the Cross

This is a neat way to take your little ones on the Journey to the Cross. I did this with our Children's Ministry kiddos and had four big stations set up in the church gym! You can totally do this at home with your kids too!

1. Jesus Enters Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) - Read Matthew 21:1-11 Talk about the disciples were obedient in v6. Discuss how sometimes we cannot understand God's plan, but we are called to be obedient to His instructions. Highlight how the people there sang praise to Christ, God's son. Make a palm branch out of hands. (Scripture focus: Matthew 21:9b)

2. The Last Supper - Read Matthew 26:26-30, Talk about how the Passover refers to God's protection and deliverance during the days of Moses. Discuss how at this "Last Supper" Jesus foretold how His body would be broken for us and His blood would have the power to cleanse our sins. He was becoming our sacrifice--The true Passover Lamb of God. Have a homemade loaf of bread there for the group, have a piece of bread with jam on it.

3. The Crucifixion -  Read Matthew 27:27-37, discuss how Jesus took our sins upon himself. He allowed Himself to be given as the sacrifice for our sins. He died so that we could have eternal life. Make a craft stick cross.

4. The Resurrection -  Read Matthew 28:1-10, Discuss how Jesus forever broke the chains of death, hell, and the grave. His resurrection guaranteed our eternal life. Make a paper plate empty tomb.
