Day by Day

I stumbled upon an AWESOME website. It's put out by the Idaho Commission of Libraries. Yes, its an Idaho hosted website, but I don't know why you couldn't use it if your in a different state. It's geared towards preschoolers and kindergarteners. It's a website that has "storytimes online". It's called Day by Day ID. It has a song, a video clip, a "try this" section, and a link to a Tumblebook. This will become part of our daily routine with school!

Paint the Snow

We got some fresh snow this past weekend and so I took #1 and #2 outside and we "painted" the snow. #1 was a bit confused as to why the snow was turning blue, until he realized I had a squirt bottle with "blue paint", aka water with blue food coloring. I was thinking red wouldn't look good (people might think it was blood), yellow would look gross, and green, well isn't as fun. So we went with blue!

14 Days of Valentine's

I got this amazing idea for a "not so expensive" and something Pastor will use (aka, eat) Valentine's Day present. Along with the Valentine Challenge, this is what I will be doing for Pastor for Valentine's Day. I hope to bring them to him at the church during the week, to make it a big thing....

I did mention it to him, since we haven't "exchanged" gifts for Valentine's Day in F-O-R-E-V-E-R, that I was going to be getting him something for Valentine's Day, roughly about $25.

Yes, in secret I'm hoping he gets me something.

BUT if not,

I'm ok with that.

The idea originally came from Six Sisters' Stuff. I'm using their printables. Some of the other ideas came from here. Some were then, my own. I think he'll like it. He can consume all of the gifts. So, what person wouldn't like it. He already thinks I'm a "nerd" for my cute phrases that go along with things, so this will top the charts!

Here's what he'll be getting, one on each day, until Valentine's Day. Topping Valentine's Day off with one of his favorite treats for breakfast.

Recipe Monday: Monkey Bread

I remember having this super YUMMY bread to eat at my grandma's house all the time. There are probably MANY ways to make Monkey Bread (or also known as pull apart caramel bread). This is how I make it:

You'll Need:
2 frozen loaves of bread dough
1 package of butterscotch pudding
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick of butter

Process

 Mix the 1 cup of brown sugar and butterscotch pudding together. Melt 1 stick of butter.
 Take your two bread dough loaves (thawed) and cut them into 1in cubes.
 Pour over the dry ingredients.

 Pour the melted butter over the bread and dry ingredients. Cover with tinfoil, let sit in the fridge OVERNIGHT.
 Bake at 350 degrees UNCOVERED for 20-25 minutes, or until bread is brown on the top.
 Tip upside down onto tin foil.

 Pull apart, and serve! SUPER yummy.

Meal Plan Monday - Jan 28-Feb 3

Ekk! While writing the title to this post I realized this week will be FEBRUARY! Ah! A whole month of 2013 done! Bam. That was fast! I swear days go faster and faster with kids!

So this week we're again, eating as MUCH AS POSSIBLE from our freezer and pantry. I kind of want to do a deep clean of the freezers and pantry, so I am going to try and clean us out, and start fresh again (besides the things that don't expire until 2014 and up).

So, here's what we'll be having

Lunch: Left Over Lasagna (friends over for lunch)
Supper: Church (next week I'll bring something for this, not sure what yet)

Breakfast: omelets and hash-browns
Lunch: Chicken Nuggets for the kids, vegetable soup (freezer meal) for me, yogurt, and celery
Supper: Chicken & Mushroom ravioli, apples, peas

Thursday
Breakfast: Cold cereal, juice
Lunch: Banana Pancakes (freezer meal), sausage, and milk
Supper: Chicken & Cheese Fajita, frozen veggies, peaches

Friday

Breakfast: Eggs and toast

Lunch: Left Overs
Supper: Tater Tot Hot dish, oranges, cookies

Saturday
Breakfast: Cold cereal, juice, toast
Lunch: Leftovers (clean out the fridge)
Supper: Garlic chicken (freezer meal), potatoes, apples, and frozen veggies

Be My Valentine Week 2 Challenge



How did your week 1 of the "Be My Valentine" Marriage Challenge go? Sometimes it was HARD for me to purse, encourage, inspire, admire, build up, and thank Pastor, but I managed. If your just reading this and you don't know what the challenge is, its a 4 week (well now we have 3 weeks until V-day) challenge.Each week the challenge will be the same – to praise, encourage, inspire, admire, build up, thank and appreciate your husband. But each week Courtney, from Women Living Well will give you different ways to express your praise.

 Let’s be angels of mercy to our husbands. We may think they are filled with confidence and strength but they are only human. They have insecurities, fears, failures, burdens and cares that we do not always slow down to recognize. We lose our tenderness in the hustle and bustle of life and this month let’s slow down and really see our husband’s with fresh eyes.
Philippians 2:3-4 says “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”(NIV)

 This week, Week 2  January 28th,  we'll have to be creative!  Praise your husband such as surprising him with a love message on the mirror, using sidewalk chalk to write on the driveway,write a love message to him in the snow, making a toast to him at dinner with friends etc. Get creative with your selflessness!

**UPDATE** So I've been doing different "little" things to praise and build up Pastor for this challenge. On Monday, Jan 28 he had a pretty hard day. I'm not sure of the exact reasons, but I know things weren't going his way. Water got all over some papers and his bible (which I think was the last straw and he just had it), things weren't being saved right for the Monday night service, and other things. I'm not sure, I didn't dive in and ask him. I could just "sense" he was having a bad day when we got to church at 3:30 to do some things for Children's Ministry (then we stay for dinner and the church service). The kids were being pretty difficult for me, and Pastor felt like he had to intervene, which was nice. But he was already busy enough. At one point he just had the "I am done" look. He's doesn't express his feelings in words often. So, before we left church (after the church service) I left him a little note. Nothing extravagant. He had another meeting after this, so he wasn't going to be done with work until about 9pm, (note he goes in at 7am!). When he got home I asked him how everything went, a typical answer....FINE....I let it be. Then on Tuesday morning, when I was frustrated with #1 in wetting his bed, yet ONCE AGAIN...post on that later...he stopped me...kissed me and thanked me for the note and said "thank you for being patient with me yesterday". I was blown away. Just felt awesome!

Weekly Wrap Up: Y

This week we talked about the letter Y. We were going to do COAH, DLK crafts, Delightful Beginnings, and a tot pack. With Martin Luther King Day even though we didn't really do anything, we had to go grocery shopping since we were all so sick for so long, we hadn't gone in over 2 weeks...then we went to church to get a few things done, and stayed for the Monday Night Worship Service, so we really didn't do much school on Monday.

Tuesday we  I did school...#1 was NOT into school on Tuesday. He wanted nothing to do with it. I didn't push it.

Wednesday we had a doctor's appointment for #3, genetic testing was PRE-AUTHORIZED by insurance, so we were given the "go ahead" to have her blood drawn, a lot of it. She also had her 2 month check up, everything else looks great. So, Wednesday we got through a couple boxes and did a yarn craft, but really weren't into it that much. #1 wanted to sit on my lap while doing school, so we really don't have many "pictures" of our work this week.

Thursday was MOPS. So no school.

Friday, we got some done, but we'll probably do a little bit more Y work next week, since I planned a week of "break" in the schedule prior to V-day we will just slowly get what I had planned done during the little "break".

52 Week Money Challenge

Next year is Pastor and my 10 year anniversary. For fun, I've started looking "dreaming" of where we will go for a little trip. We never had a honeymoon, we moved to college (inbetween our Sophomore and Junior years) instead. What a honeymoon. We've either been in college, master's school, on internships, or had kids that we couldn't leave, because I was nursing them. I don't know how, but we've timed it just right. Next summer I will not be nursing any babies anymore and will be able to leave for an extended time, hopefully.

52Weeks

So, looking at our budget, we really don't have a "LOT" to play with. Really none. BUT, we are going to do something, even if its just camping in Yellowstone, by ourselves. I'm going to take this 52 week Money Challenge. I think I can do it. I like how she goes to the bank and gets dollar COINS. It's maybe not as tempting to take out coins as it is dollar bills. At the end of the year, or 52 weeks, you'll have about $1300! I'm going to try it. :) At the start it won't be hard, but in the end it will be. I'll see how long I last.

Desperate: AWESOME Mom Book!



Oh Ladies, I’ve got the perfect book for you to read. I was blessed while reading it…made me feel so much more “accomplished” as a mom, and I didn’t do anything different.

What’s this amazing book you ask?

It’s Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe by Sarah Mae & Sally Clarkson.

 

I first read about the book on the Better Mom website. They had awesome things to say about the book. A few of my facebook friends were talking about it. So I had to read it and find out what it was all about. I’m so so so glad I did!

 

Sarah Mae and Sally Clarkson are both moms. Sarah is a younger mom, and Sally is a more seasoned mom. Each chapter starts out with a little from Sarah to Sally and vice versa. You can feel the loving relationship that Sarah and Sally have developed just by reading these little letters. Sally is mentoring Sarah and encouraging her through some of the more difficult times in motherhood, like in Titus 2:3-5 -  Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

 

At times like these where our society relies heavily on Facebook, Twitter, Media and other things, its essential to have real like moms and mentors who you can go and talk and pray with.

 

Sarah Mae’s writing is so similar to my mom situations. She talks about the happy times, the not so happy times and everything in between. Sally comforts her through all of these, using the bible as a reference as well as her own experiences. It’s almost like you can see the two of them talking this out over coffee.

 

This book has changed how I parent. I love my children so deeply and want to show them Jesus’ love, but some days it’s hard. This book acknowledges that and embraces it. This book gives you a lot of grace and is focused on Christ. It’s truly a blessing to any momma out there, young or old!

 

If their writing wasn’t applicable enough, they add “Your Turn” and “Something to Do” at the end of every chapter. This book is now a bible study! The “Your Turn” section has a bible verse and 2-3 questions that relate to your life. The “Something to Do” has you set a goal, take action on something, or write in a journal. It’s so helpful to have a place to start!

 

I highly recommend this book. I got it as an e-book, but plan to purchase the hard copy of the book so I can write in it, jot down notes and such, and then pass it along to my girls, when they are mothers someday.

Baking a Pie Without Burning the Crust!

Do you ever bake a pie and crust turns out really dark and burnt, but the rest of the pie is fine? It's happened to me a couple of times and I've found a new handy trick to keep the pie crusts from burning!


What you have to do is tear a 12in piece of tin foil. Cut a 7in circle out of the middle and place it over your pie. Bake your pie as normal. Then when you take it out of the oven, it all looks evenly cooked!


I made this delicious apple pie from some apples that were given to us by a friend this fall!

Beef Stroganoff in 20 minutes!

This week I am going to share with you my mom's beef stroganoff. This is my "go to" recipe if we're short on time and we have hamburger taken out. This will take you 20 minutes from start to finish! Simple, easy, and super yummy. At least I think so. Probably not super "healthy".

What you need:
Egg Noodles (or noodles of your choice)
1# Hambuger
1/2 onion, chopped
6 strips of raw bacon, cut up
1 can of mushrooms
8oz of sour cream
1 can Mushroom soup
Season Salt
Minced Garlic
Pepper

Start a pot of boiling water for some egg noodles (I get so much free pasta from couponing that I just use whatever noodle is in the front of the row in my pasta section of my pantry).

Next in a large saucepan, put in your raw bacon, mushrooms, onions, and hamburger. Brown hamburger until cooked all the way at medium heat. Season with season salt, minced garlic, and pepper.

Once its cooked all the way through, add the mushroom soup. Mix in, then add the sour cream. Reduce to low heat, stir occassionally.

Add noodles to boiling water, cook until done. Drain and Rinse. 

Serve the stroganoff over noodles.

Dinner in 20 minutes!

Meal Plan Monday Jan 21-27

Alright. We made it a whole week without going to the grocery store, intentionally, but because we got hammered with the flu. We did have to make some quick trips to get power-aide, medicine, and 7-up. Not a total fail on not going grocery shopping. Pastor and the kids just had left overs or mac and cheese some nights, because this momma didn't cook Thursday-Sunday!

I'm going grocery shopping today sometime, with all 3 kiddos in tow. Wish me luck. This will be my FIRST trip with all 3 to the grocery store.

I pray we it out alive, and come out with the same number of kids as I went in.

We'll make it.

I think.

Anyway. I've decided I"m going shopping for the rest of the month on Monday, and I'll make my menu next week according to what I have in the house.

Be My Valentine - Challenege.

I was reading through some of my blogs and I found this AWESOME Valentine "challenge" from Women Living Well Ministries.

Now, I can say this here, because Pastor doesn't typically read my blog. Tsk Tsk.

I've got a great 14 days of Valentine's Planned for Pastor, I'll post that towards the end of the month. I'm going to add this onto it too. If you want to check out exactly what to do, go to their website. The first week is about taking the initiative, something I don't do well, or often.They give some good suggestions too!
Week 1 Challenge - Take the Initiative!  Look for ways to praise your husband verbally.
Praise him in front of the kids, friends, family, co-workers, on facebook, tweet it – get praise out anyway you can! Try to mention something noteworthy he has done – in his role as provider, father, husband, lover, or friend. If the thought of trying to come up with one terrifies you, then pray right now that God will give you new eyes to see your husband as God does. Then open your mouth and say something kind and uplifting to your husband today and tomorrow and the next day until Valentine’s Day arrives!

We're not too big into Valentine's Day, especially now with kids.

Get a sitter.

Go out to eat, with the rest of the world, wait forever at a resturant.

Wait forever to get your food.

Pay for the food.

Go to a movie or something else. Pay for that too.

Go home, pay the sitter.

Drive the sitter home.

Come home, maybe relax.

Just doesn't sound as fun when you've got young ones at home and a sitter that doesn't drive yet...a couple more months and my TOP babysitter can drive. You do NOT know how excited I am for this!

SO, instead Pastor and I usually order in, one of us go and get it and we eat together, without the kids...have a nice conversation over dinner in our own home, watch a rented movie, and cuddle. Way less stressful.

Weekly Wrap Up Letter U

Boy have we been hit with some NASTY virus, and hit BAD. I'm thankful, knock on wood, that #3 who's just 7 weeks old hasn't gotten it (neither has Pastor, which is good, because he's like an additional child when he's sick). HOWEVER This momma has it, hence why this post is 2 days overdue. I'm not sure what it is. I honestly think throwing up for 24 hours would be better than 2-3 weeks of nasty coughing, sneezing, and runny noses would be better...then again I'm sure I'd change my mind in that situation too. Being sick is just NO FUN at all. Period.

We didn't do any school Monday or Tuesday. #1 was REALLY ill.

Thankfully we checked out some kids movies from the library, so that kept us entertained on Monday and Tuesday, along with 3-4 hour naps for him. I felt so horrible. He had croup last Friday and it's just gotten worse.

We went to the doctor but they did nothing. Honestly I don't even know why I take my kids into the clinic anymore. I always come back with "wait it out" news. Blah!

So, we started our week on U on Wednesday. I figure this is 3s curriculum, whatever we don't get through, we'll hit HARD next year, prior to kindergarten. He's a smart kid. He'll get it one way or another.
